I love the lifestyle you’ve got when running a web business. I work from home a day, I set my very own schedules, I select my very own projects and my income is vital. Indeed, such errors cause problems for both visitors and search engines. Yet at the same time, some teens are doing very well, making a four-figure monthly income after working on their site for 6-12 months. 

They didn’t necessarily get it all, but they were good enough at solving big problems early on. What bothers me the most about all of this is that too often people fail because of technology. A lot of them have great ideas and great content. It was a shame to read some of their articles and say to myself: This is very interesting, but a shame because no one will ever see this.

The cruel and unfair part of doing business online is that if you are not very good with the Internet, you will be making technical mistakes that you are unaware of. You might be successful in passing the step of delivering content, but technical errors will hurt your bottom line. In my “ How To Make Money From Your Blog ” article, I correctly identified this problem and mentioned that 99 out of 100 people would fail because of it. However, it is still a fairly unfair situation.

Some people can write great articles that deserve a lot of readers, but because they don’t understand permalinks, RSS feeds, pinging, or other technologies, they are bound to fail before you start. When I saw this happens, I decided that I better not encourage people to start a business online.

People kept asking me for new articles on the subject, but I didn’t think it was a good idea. I was afraid of doing more harm than good. On the other hand, if you are one of those people who have been held back by the technical complexities, I encourage you to take a look. This is the kind of solution I would recommend to my friends who are not programmers but want to put something online and need some technical help. Running a web business is often an exquisite growth experience. 

The income and the freedom it can provide are certainly nice too. People should not miss this opportunity for technical reasons. The self-publishing power that blogging offers got us halfway there, but it’s only one piece of the puzzle.
